Cultural life of the city:

The city very early became an intellectual centre. The first grammar school of the county was here between 1802-1834. Szendrei Júlia was student between 1838-1840 in the young ladies boarding-school operation in the Wenckheim-mansion. The famous poet Petőfi Sándor had family and friend relation here. The monument arised by the bridge of the Kettős-Körös river reminds the fact that the poet left for the Camp of General Bem from Mezőberény.
